Seasonal Decor You Don’t Have to Pack Away

Seasonal decorating can sometimes feel like an all-or-nothing effort. Bring everything out, then pack it all away a few weeks later. It can be overwhelming to say the least! Let’s talk about an easier approach: seasonal decor that adds warmth and beauty without demanding constant change.

That’s the perspective I recently shared when I was honored to be featured as a design expert in The Spruce. The focus was on decor that transitions effortlessly from season to season — evergreen pieces that feel like home year-round.

Seasonal Doesn’t Have to Mean Temporary
Seasonal decor doesn’t have to feel “theme-y.” It’s about light, texture and mood. It’s about subtle shifts that reflect the season we’re in while still feeling timeless.

That’s where my pre-lit trees come in. Styled in our entryway, they could be mistaken for Christmas decor, but they are not intended to be holiday-specific. The soft glow creates a welcoming feeling during darker winter months — and continues to add warmth long after the holidays have passed.

Why Pre-Lit Trees Work Year-Round
Sometimes I keep the trees simple and neutral, letting them enhance the space instead of defining a season. In an entryway, they create balance and an immediate spark of comfort and beauty. Think less decoration, more atmosphere.

Decorating the Trees Subtly for Each Season
While the trees stay up through spring, I love adjusting them with small, intentional touches to reflect different seasons and holidays — without ever feeling overdone.

A few subtle ideas:

  • Soft ribbon or bows for Valentine’s Day or spring

  • Natural elements like dried florals or greenery

  • Minimal ornaments, bells or tags

Pre-lit trees don’t have to be just for Christmas!

The key is restraint, which can be hard for a “more is more” kind of gal like me! I try to treat the trees as a backdrop, adding just enough detail to nod to the moment without turning them into a full-blown themed display.

Here are the decorating supplies I used to decorate the trees for Valentine’s Day:

Decorating with Longevity in Mind
Choosing decor with longevity simplifies transitions, reduces visual clutter and creates a home that feels calm and grounded.

I’m so grateful to The Spruce for the opportunity to share my ideas! If this resonates, I hope it encourages you to look at your home and ask: What pieces already bring warmth — and what if they didn’t have to be packed away? :)
